The Mission Hall Studio – A space for Creativity and Well Being available to rent for workshops
The Mission Hall Studio is a beautiful, newly renovated space in Leith, in the centre of Edinburgh. It was built in1896 on the site of a former Coachouse and Stable. It was owned by the church until 1994 when it was purchased by Alex Durkin who did very little to the fabric of the building and rented it out as a music studio, and paint store amongst other things. In 2015 artist Jenny Smith purchased it to use as her studio. During the renovations in 2018, she upgraded the building and extended the mezzanine upstairs to create two beautiful new, warm. light filled spaces.
During the process of renovation it became apparent that with such a beautiful, still energy and great light and acoustics, the building was calling to once again become a space for community: connecting back to it’s origins, in a new way.
Currently Jenny works from her studio downstairs and the upstairs is available for workshops and one to one work that relates to creativity and/or well-being. Jenny runs Moon Circles, Dream groups and Creative Workshops in the spaces herself and welcomes enquires about using either or both of the spaces from other practioners, whose work compliments this, relating to either creativity, bodywork and/or wellbeing. The two studios are self contained and also link via double doors, making it possible to use as one larger space. The two studios and a sink and refreshment area are on the first floor (which doesn’t currently have disabled access) and the two toilets and bigger kitchen are downstairs. Free on street parking and regular bus services run to Leith Links and it is a 25 minute walk from Waverley Station and Princess Street. Centrally located on a quiet street.
